A nursing home is a building that houses at least two persons who are not related by blood or by marriage to the administrator. This type of establishment offers its inhabitants 24-hour care by on-site nurses. These caregivers offer specialized care for those who are unable to take care of their needs.

Some services come at an extra cost which can include personal comfort items, flowers and plants, and personal reading materials. The most frequent mental condition experienced by nursing home residents is dementia, which can hinder their and familiarity, memory recall, and decision making capacities.
