Response from Oaks at Habersham
November 15, 2024Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to care for your mother.
The people who work there are caring, understanding and helpful. This is a small facility and the staff gets to know the residents which is great. The small size is perfect for my husband who is introverted. There have been little issues along the way and everything has been (or is being) addressed in a timely and gracious manner.

I would not recommend it. while there are a couple of quality staff, it is not managed well and my mother definitely does not get the services that we pay for.

Many times my mother would ring for someone to take her to the bathroom, especially at night, and she'd be ignored. I've had nasty aide on the phone and she refused to give me her name & when they took my mother to hospice, someone went into her room & stole all her perfume bottles! They were Christmas presents, expensive & full! No one has ever been held accountable. Many tomes had to call & get someone to clean her room. Most were nice but some were nasty. Directors & managers were always professional & helpful. Again, what I paid for lacked the attention not only needed overnight for my mother but other residents. When they could keep a cook, it was good. Most complaints were slow service. She always enjoyed the arts & crafts, bingo, outings, & happy hour & ice cream socials. Compared to the cost of other places around town, Oaks was good for the money. She couldn't afford a [fee removed] a month place, so for [fee removed] plus, it was worth the aggravation of a few bad employees. There were so special people who cared about their people but some were just unhappy people & management would try hard to weed those people out.

Our experience has been generally good. I wish they made more effort to get residents involved with other residents and the activities. We chose the Oaks for cost, location, and first impression of the staff.

February 2, 2024Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.
Our family had an in person tour with Oaks at Habersham and the reason for the overall rating is simply because they seemed confused. We had an appointment and we waited for like 30 minutes before anyone came to talk with us. So we were turned off pretty quick there. Plus there pricing to is was a little steep for that place.

I am pretty unhappy with the service. I have let them know my concerns, and nothing they have done has resulted in resolving things. They can improve by providing proper care for the residents. My loved one is not being properly taken care of.

January 5, 2023Thank you for the kind words and five star review.
I was not very impressed with Oaks at Habersham, the security was not good. The doors just open right up, most places you have to have a code. I knew my loved one would escape right away so I did not feel comfortable placing him here.

It's felt very welcoming here. They were upfront about pricing and what was included. No surprise fees. They offer housekeeping. Trash removed daily. Deep cleaning weekly. The food is outstanding! None of it feels institutional. The portions are healthy, too. There are many activities throughout the week. Most at the facility, but some are out in the community. At least once a week there is live music! Overall the place is very clean. Everyone there seems genuinely happy. I would highly recommend them to family and friends.

November 30, 2022Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on our community.
So far things have been good overall. When we first moved our loved one in, they had next to no staff, but they've been staffing up, and things have been better since then. Just be sure to ask lots of questions during the touring process and be proactive afterward. The staff have been very attentive to our questions/concerns. The facility does need some upgrades, and I would also like so see better consistency and quality of the food.

May 6, 2021Thank you for visiting us. We're delighted you found our community to be clean, comfortable and caring. We do offer short term stays for people who want to “try out” senior living before making a commitment. That may be a good option for you and your sister if you don't know if you're fully ready to make a longer term commitment. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us if we can be of further assistance.
The staff are great and very friendly. They are cooperative with the residents. It has been during the pandemic for the time I have been here. They are showing movies on Thursdays, and have other activities. The food is 'good'. It is cooked well, and you have choices of the food. They do have a main menu and some alternative menus available, except during the pandemic.

February 19, 2021Thank you for the feedback on life in our community. We're glad to read you are enjoying the programs and dining since you moved in -- and we appreciate your compliments of our amazing (and as you said – friendly) team. We're honored you choose Habersham House as your new home!
Since this was a virtual tour, it was difficult to really tell what the apartment may be like. The building is older and because of this the cheaper price makes us a little concerned as to what it may look like in person.

July 10, 2020I am the Executive Director and we understand the current restrictions are challenging for potential new residents and their loved ones when it comes to touring senior living communities. While restrictions on non-essential visitors remain in place in order to protect the health and well-being of our residents and team members, we can provide creative ways for you to get to know our community. In addition to the virtual tour you took we are happy to provide Zoom or FaceTime meetings, tours of the outside common areas, and window shopping (whereby you can look into a vacant ground floor apartment from the courtyard) as ways to see our community. We would also be delighted to connect you with many residents and family members who can tell you about their wonderful experience at Habersham House. Please contact me or our sales team if we can be of further assistance as you look for senior living options.
Very under staffed. Nurses are not available most of the time. Getting help from the kitchen to help with patients on the weekend.

Response from Oaks at Habersham
October 29, 2019Gladys, at Habersham House it is our goal to exceed expectations for all our residents, families and guests. I am the Executive Director and want to assure you that we not only meet state regulations for staffing, as a senior living company committed to quality care, we strive to exceed what is required. I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you regarding your concerns as we are always open to feedback from residents and their families. Please contact me at your convenience at the community.
We moved our mother into Habersham House (HH) memory care unit. We had many problems as detailed below: When applying for admittance for our mother, in addition to her financial statements (she is self supporting), we had to provide our own personal financial details which we found intrusive. We also completed a detailed account of our mother's likes, dislikes, personal history, etc. We appreciated the thoroughness of these questions. Sadly, it became clear that the information on our mother was either never shared with the staff or if it was, they ignored it. When our mother celebrated her 91st birthday, nothing was done to celebrate it, nor was it even mentioned. When we inquired if anything was done to acknowledge this special day, the Director’s reply indicated the staff had no idea. There were regular activities and musical events in the assisted living area that our mother would have enjoyed (as indicated on her questionnaire) but she was never taken to participate. In fact, one such day, my sister was present when a staff member came to the memory unit to ask if there were any patients to transport for the performance. The aides present immediately said "no", with no consideration that a few residents might have been interested. The memory care unit literature and advertising emphasize the Montessori Method. It was never explained to us how this method was applied to people with memory deficits. Although a bulletin board listed several activities each day, we never once saw any activities despite visiting several times a week, at different times of the day. The aides in that unit appear unsmiling and unresponsive when greeted and certainly, whenever I was there, they were more interested in their cell phones than in the residents, who were left in their chairs to watch infomercials or other inappropriate content on the TV. The residents lack stimulation and seem to be treated poorly by the staff who do not seem to care since their patients cannot voice any complaints. Our mother was in the Memory Care unit at Habersham House for 6 weeks approximately and her hair was washed only 2 times, even after frequent requests! On one occasion, the coordinator of the unit said the staff did not wash hair and we had to have the hairdresser do it (was this a kickback scheme?!). What happens to residents who cannot afford to have a hairdresser on a weekly basis? Of course, when we complained to the director, this was denied but it did happen. Hair was supposed to be washed once a week, baths 3 times a week. On one occasion, my sister arrived to find my mother's door closed. She heard yelling behind the door and when she knocked, a staff member opened it slightly and said they were helping her in the bathroom. When my sister spoke with our mother afterward, she said the staff were very rough with her. At that point, my sister inspected mother’s skin and found red marks on her back. You can form your own conclusions here. Our mother was moved to Habersham House from another facility out-of-state where she had resided for 2 years. The Staff there were wonderful and we were very satisfied with her care. The new residence to which we moved our mother after Habersham House, is also wonderful. Residents there are respected and treated with dignity; the staff are visibly caring. There are many activities in the memory care unit and our mother actively engages in them. Her mental state has improved enormously! I mention this to indicate that we are not newbies to this, nor are we typically complainers. Of the three facilities which we have experienced, we were happy with all except HH.

November 9, 2017As the Regional Director of Operations, I want to reassure you that at Habersham House -- as in all of our Five Star communities -- resident care, safety, and happiness is our top priority. We provide the team members in our memory care neighborhood with training according to state regulations as well as in our organizations' unique Bridge to Rediscovery standards. Our goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia can flourish and share a positive life experience. That said, I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you regarding your observations as we are always looking for ways to listen and improve. If you are willing to chat please contact me at the community by simply asking to speak to the Regional Director of Operations.
I did not really care for Habersham House when I toured. They had happy hour on Fridays and I did not think that would be good for my mother with all of her medications. It would probably be the place she wanted but not what she needed.
